Innovative program wins award

Sydney Symphony Orchestra

MBF's partnership with the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, music4health, was recently awarded the National Toyota Community Award by the Australian Business Arts Foundation.

The Award recognises partnerships that enhance the cultural, social and economic life of local communities, and create wonderful grassroots outcomes.

The music4health program sees ensembles of Sydney Symphony musicians perform short concerts in hospitals.

"A hospital might appear an unlikely venue for an orchestral concert, but research has shown music can be 'good medicine' for young patients," says MBF National Public Affairs Manager, David Jones.

"It provides a wonderful and uplifting diversion during a hospital stay and, in some cases, a welcome distraction from the effects of illness or injury."

Seeing eye-to-eye

Seeing eye to eye

MBF Australia and Blink Optical Pty Ltd are working together to establish a new national retail chain of optical stores.

The aim is to initially build more than 30 stores nationwide for MBF customers in the next 12 months.

"The joint venture is a great combination of MBF's record in looking after the needs of customers and Blink's experience and expertise in the optical market," says Eric Dodd, MBF Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.

"We plan to grow the joint venture brand through acquisitions and new store openings, with the goal of having a substantial network of stores by June 2008."

A new optical outlet has already been established at MBF's new George St Centre.

The Centre is the first of its kind for MBF: not only can you still get all your regular services here, you can also participate in one of the free activities or events, plus get your optical needs met.

The new BLINK outlet offers state-of-the-art equipment, a great range of quality brands at great prices and exclusive special offers.

Come and visit the MBF Centre at 319 George St, Sydney.

MBF steps lightly on the planet

MBF Australia recognises the importance of being a good corporate citizen and has adopted seven Corporate Responsibility Principles, including a commitment to minimise our impact on the environment.

Our first step is to measure our energy consumption and exposure to greenhouse risk. We have undertaken an extensive energy audit to measure our building related carbon footprint and applied for Australian Building Greenhouse Ratings (ABGR) for all our main sites.

We also need to ensure that we use our energy wisely and productively, and are reviewing viable opportunities to introduce cost-effective measures that will reduce our energy consumption.

MBF is working with Big Switch Projects, a Sydney company that focuses on projects that improve the environmental performance of large commercial buildings and tenancies.

Big Switch Projects worked with MBF Australia in 2004, assisting with the fitout of our Corporate Office, which remains a showcase energy efficient office to this day.
